On the south-east corner of Hongshan Forest Zoo in Xuanwu District, Nanjing, with Xuanwu Lake to the south and Purple Mountain to the east, the site is wrapped by the zoo itself. team+ proposed the concept of an “urban micro-vacation” destination here in 2016.

The idea “Magic Forest · Wonder World” fuses nature, forest and animals into an immersive dreamscape, organised around three themes: a magic journey, immersive experience and organic architecture. The layout pairs a small mall with an open street that extends the zoo's green, open environment, while the mall provides comfortable indoor activity space.

Total floor area is 44,600 m², of which 25,600 m² is above ground. The scheme won the 2022 IAF Ideal Architecture Festival Annual Merit Award for architecture. The initial design was not the version finally implemented, yet its early reading of the “urban micro-vacation” idea has since been borne out.
